Give The Best Gift - Giving - On #GivingTuesday

In our latest The Man Way feature on holiday shopping for men, I already mentioned that giving is the best gift.  Well, today is a great day to do just that. After the drain of Black Friday and Cyber Monday (oh and did you catch some calling Thanksgiving Gray Thursday? Isn't is just Thanksgiving?) we need to cleanse ourselves of the taint of capitalism - and what better way to do that than to give of ourselves because after all we should all know by now that being good is good for you.

Today, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is now known as Giving Tuesday - a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.. It is a day to think about gift giving in a different way.

There are many ways for us to give a gift far more meaningful than any present from donations to volunteering. An easy way is to check out the Giving Tuesday page on how to Get Involved where over 20,000 charities are registered. But if you want to make a truly great gift look for something local or meaningful to you or a friend or family member. We have all been impacted by a disease, let that inspire you to help those affected by it. Maybe a pet has added an extra dimension to your life, if so find an animal welfare agency to help. You may feel strongly about diet and nutrition, organic farming, or the environment. For every passion there is likely a charity that you can help either with time or money. Remember it isn't always about donations - your skills and talents may be as cherished as your cash.

If a loved one has a special interest, perhaps the best gift you will ever give them is helping out an organization that supports that interest. This year, this day, think about really giving - giving back.
