U of Tennessee Vols Step Up Vs. Bullying

You may have seen it on the news already, but I wanted to extend my gratitude to the University of Tennessee for taking a stand against bullying. By producing the design that caused a student to be bullied, and donating all proceeds to  STOMP Out Bullying , they show that they have a heart.

Former Packers Ride To End Bullying

At an event that I organize, I was able to meet Earl Dotson at a booth for Henderson Helps , an organization founded by William Henderson, former - Super Bowl winning - Green Bay Packer. He was there promoting a motorcycle ride coming up this Saturday June 15: Henderson's Ride For Hope . The cause: raising awareness and money for anti-bullying programs, something dear to my heart. You can tell these guys are truly caring about kids, Earl came by and visited the students of the BUILD Moto Mentor program to encourage them in their work.

Dear Mr. President: That's Not How This Works.

One of these guys needs to drop that line any time now "That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works..."  It's the punchline of a recent and very funny commercial, but with the POTUS coming to our city this week, it's also a line that could and should be used on 45. I'll be honest, you can probably guess I have major issues with the policies themselves, but this isn't even about that. I'll let others discuss those on public forums. This isn't so much as what but how. And just as expected, based on his temperament on the election trail and in his business dealings and public persona beforehand, he is not effectively leading our country. Sad.

NFL Should Form, Fund A Respect Organization

I saw a post on social media saying the NFL should change their primary recipient of support and funding from that certain rose-hued campaign to supporting Domestic Violence awareness. I get what they are saying. First the pink campaign has little to do with its people - sure there are probably plenty of players impacted by a friend or family member with breast cancer - but with Ray Rice as the latest, there have been more than enough reports of players involved in DV. Add to that the questionable value of the pink campaign and looking for another cause where support could be better controlled becomes relevant. Not that DV specifically is a bad idea, but I have a better one. I think the NFL should create a sensitivity program not only for its players but for all athletic programs (and others as well) - or maybe I should spin it the other way - maybe they should support a cause not only to the public, but to their players as well. There are plenty of player- and team-related stories whe...

Great Play: Dolphins Bullying Decision Can Have Trickle Down Effect

If a man of this size can be bullied, anyone can. When the Miami Dolphins suspended their player (who shall remain nameless here) who was found to be bullying a team mate they showed themselves to be a great team regardless of what their record ends up being. You can find the full story elsewhere , including a transcript of an example of the hatred that spewed from the mouth of the player in a voicemail left for the victim. The victim, Jonathan Martin left the team mid-season after a reported incident but it likely was due to this bullying. I am not sure what steps Martin took before this to report, and one hopes if he did they were followed up on, and it is a shame he left if it was because of this. I am not saying the Dolphins did everything right, we will have to wait til the details come out and see how they follow up on possibly other accusations. But at least at this point, of their own accord not even from a league mandate, they took the positive step to take a stand again...
