Radio Radio Benefit For Vision Forward Association Friday 3/4/16

Radio Radio , "Milwaukee's Premier New Wave Band", plays he music of my teen years so I'm a big fan. They also do perhaps the largest percentage of benefit gigs to regular gigs, so I'm an even bigger (or is it Greater? ) fan? This Friday, they are at it again, providing the entertainment for a bash where all proceeds from the event will benefit Vision Forward Association , it's going to be a night of great music for a worthy cause. Doors Open @ 6:30 pm. New Wave dance hits until 11pm. $25 donation includes 2 drink tickets & appetizer station (plus a full night of lost gems from the new wave era...). It's also the anniversary of their first gig, back in March of 2009 at the Stone Fly. Help the band usher in year 8 of new wave dance parties and raise some funds for a great cause. Visit the  Facebook Event  for more details. And as always, check out our Calendar for more man-friendly charitable events throughout the year (and if you have a sugg...

MADACC Low Cost Pet Care Clinic 3/26

Part of being a great man, a gentleman, is being responsible. That pertains to yourself, family, and work but also to being the companion of a pet. Being a responsible companion means caring for their health and well-being (which includes the basic vaccinations), but it also includes licensing them. It happens to be the law, one that may well be one of the most-ignored ones, just as registering your vehicle or other permits - but more importantly it also helps get them back if lost. You might have them microchipped and have a personal tag, but using every means possible to make sure they are accounted for is always a good idea. For some the  cost is prohibitive, so to help resolve any impediments to those with lower incomes caring for their pets, ( MADACC) will be hosting their annual low cost vaccination and micro-chipping clinic on March 26th between 10 am and 2 pm.

Support Braise, Support Farmers, Good Food

Braise is a Milwaukee restaurant of the farm-to-table variety, but it is much more than that: a CSA (community supported agriculture), RSA (restaurant supported agriculture), culinary school, and more. Across all its different functions there is a core mission though: to bring good food to the people of Milwaukee, and by good we mean more than good tasting, we mean food that is good for the environment, for you, for the community. Braise has helped the community including restaurants and farmers, now it needs the community's help.

Chris Porterfield Gives Song, Proceeds To Neighbor

Record artwork by Dwellephant Chris Porterfield, Milwaukee musician and member of the band Field Report , recently wrote a song for a neighbor. That neighbor - Tia Wilson - is only 8 and has sickle cell anemia . Her battle with the disease, and her recent bone marrow transplant, inspired Porterfield to write a song for Field Report. Initially played for the family at a show this past October, Daniel Holter offered to record the song, Justin Perkins offered to master the track, and local artist Dwellephant offered to illustrate it.

NFL Player DeAngelo Williams Goes Beyond Pink

Though I support all campaigns to raise awareness and funds for health and wellness, the month of October, the " Pink " month always makes me cringe a little, especially when it come to the partnership with the NFL. We've seen how the 'too big to fail' myth about businesses resulted and the same can be said for some nonprofit campaigns. I'm not saying the pink campaign is bad, but I, like many others, question the end results as well as this specific partnership. At this point its easy to wonder how many really relate and take to heart the message and are just buying anything pink, many of which may not even be related to the campaign. Anyone now can make a pink product and take advantage of the increased sales whether they give money to the campaign or not, or maybe a very small percentage, the NFL's products for example are shown to donate a minimal amount back to breast cancer research (for every $100 in pink merchandise sold, $12.50 goes to the NFL. ...
