Give. Match. Grow. Milwaukee On Match Day 2013

On March 14, members of the community will come together again to raise funds for 21 food and shelter agencies participating in the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's second Match Day. The 24-hour online event is the only of its kind in Wisconsin and is designed to raise awareness for basic needs in the southeastern Wisconsin and was a success last year when they raised $1.8 million.

Each gift made online that day will be proportionately matched. The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and its donors, Brewers Community Foundation, Faye McBeath Foundation, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and many other local funders have pledged $750,000 toward the match pool for that day.

Coordinated by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, the event showcases 21 participating agencies in southeast Wisconsin helping meet individuals' basic food and shelter needs, including: Advocates of Ozaukee, Center for Veterans Issues, Community Advocates, Daystar, Family Promise of Washington County, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Food Pantry of Waukesha County, Friends of Abused Families, Guest House of Milwaukee, Hebron House of Hospitality, Hope Center, Hope House of Milwaukee, Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Pathfinders Milwaukee, Repairers of the Breach, Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee, Sojourner Family Peace Center, The Cathedral Center, The Women's Center, and Walker's Point Youth & Family Center.

An added incentive to giving this year is the Golden Ticket, generously sponsored by the Brewers Community Foundation. At eight different times throughout the day, a donor's gift will be randomly chosen and $1,000 will be added to it, thereby increasing its value. The Brewers Community Foundation and Time Warner Cable have generously contributed additional prizes for the event.

Simply search for the charity you wish to support, then click the “Donate” button and enter the appropriate donation information. Donations are tax deductible and irrevocable (donations will not be refunded).

Do We Even Understand What A Billionaire Is?

In today's world, we marvel at billionaires, yet very few actually understand what it means. I know its a ridiculous number we cannot fathom, but the more I looked into it, the more it shocked me how much these people really are worth.  Among the general populace, making 'six-figures' or $100,000 is a benchmark of success and wealth. Millionaires are truly wealthy. But what is often misunderstood is how exponentially large adding another, let alone 3, or 6 a number becomes.  The wealthiest aren't just billionaires either, they are hundred billionaires. Elon Musk is worth 265 billion. That is 265 with 9 zeroes after it. 265,000,000,000. It would take someone making six-figures 2,650,000 years to amass that wealth with no expenses. 2.65 MILLION years. To reach Jeff Bezos' wealth would only take them 1.77 million years. Even someone who makes a million dollars a year (which is wealthier than a millionaire which is just a net worth not annual salary delineation) would ...

DEI Creates Opportunities, Doesn't Lower Requirements

Companies have been being attacked recently for DEI initiatives, such as boycotting, to force them to undo those efforts. These attacks are typically dog whistle coding to cover up discrimination against minorities including women and people of color. The narrative is typically that hiring standards are lowered to include a wider range of employees and that it is a form of reverse discrimination - disadvantaging one group (people that are one or more of white, male, and cisgender). But not only is this not the case, in fact, DEI initiatives are proven to strengthen companies' performance across many metrics - even financially. Someone recently brought up lowering standard for airline pilots as proof that DEI is a radical far left practice that supposedly in this case makes pilots less qualified and flying more dangerous in order to fulfill DEI quotas. A similar case has been made recently regarding the Secret Service and issues with at least one high-profile recent event that is - ...
