Brewers Support MECA Vest A K-9 Fest

These are the types of vests that the event will help provide
Milwaukee Professional Baseball Players, WAMI Award Winner And GAB to attend the 2014 MECA Vest A K-9 Fest.

In partnership with FOX Sports Network (FSN), Dr. Lichtenberger, DVM, DACVECC and The MECA Foundation  will host the 3rd annual MECA Vest A K-9 Fest Saturday, July 26th from 10am until 3pm at the Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals located in Greenfield, WI.

Last year over 1200 people attended the event in support of the MECA Foundation’s mission, which is to provide total wellness for Wisconsin police k-9's including veterinary care, financial support for police K-9's and K-9 protective vests.

Wisconsin has over 235 canine officers and most of them do not have protection. The average cost of a K-9 vest is $840.  Each vest is bullet and stab proof and made of the same ballistic material as the human officer vest. The vest weights approximately 6 lbs. The vests do not inhibit the K-9's movement. The K-9's wear the vests in training exercises so they are ready and able to do their work while wearing the vest. A K-9 vest is not worn like a uniform, but rather only as needed. The K-9s' Handler will put the vest on the K-9 when there is an increased danger level.

The MECA Foundation, founded by Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, DVM, DACVECC is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting every police dog in the state of Wisconsin with bullet resistant and stab proof vests. In addition, the MECA Foundation also assists Wisconsin police K-9 Units purchase police dogs by donating grants to Wisconsin k-9 Units.

Milwaukee professional baseball players will also make a special appearance to express their support for the cause as Martin Maldonado emphasized by releasing the following statement; “Police dogs risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe. They deserve lifesaving protection. I am honored to support such an important event.” Jonathan Lucroy, Brandon Kintzler and Jim Henderson will also attend the event.

The MECA Foundation will feature music by the 2014 WAMI Award Winner Singer/Songwriter, Nora Collins, who is touted as Wisconsin’s fastest rising star. “Police dogs unselfishly serve and protect the community. Let’s show our thanks by protecting them,” stated Nora Collins.

DEI Creates Opportunities, Doesn't Lower Requirements

Companies have been being attacked recently for DEI initiatives, such as boycotting, to force them to undo those efforts. These attacks are typically dog whistle coding to cover up discrimination against minorities including women and people of color. The narrative is typically that hiring standards are lowered to include a wider range of employees and that it is a form of reverse discrimination - disadvantaging one group (people that are one or more of white, male, and cisgender). But not only is this not the case, in fact, DEI initiatives are proven to strengthen companies' performance across many metrics - even financially. Someone recently brought up lowering standard for airline pilots as proof that DEI is a radical far left practice that supposedly in this case makes pilots less qualified and flying more dangerous in order to fulfill DEI quotas. A similar case has been made recently regarding the Secret Service and issues with at least one high-profile recent event that is - ...
