Movember , an annual campaign started in Australia to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer, uses November as a time to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men, by growing a moustache for the month of November. Men register for a fundraising page similar to walks, runs, and bike rides, but this time the race is to grow a fabulous mo. Men are to start November 1st clean shaven and for the rest of the month let their mo grow into a walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November as people ask them about their mo which provides the opportunity to start private and public conversations around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Most people know the name St. Bernard for the dog that was bred to rescue people in the Alps, which are in turn named for Saint Bernard of Menthon by way of Great St. Bernard Pass in Switzerland. This week in New York a man named St. Bernard is being hailed as a true savior and hero - a saint - after catching a girl that fell form a third story window. Stephen St. Bernard, bus driver and father of four, noticed a 7-year-old girl three stories up dancing on an air conditioning unit outside a Brooklyn building. Realizing this was a recipe for disaster and thinking what if that was one of his children, St. Bernard went up to the building below the girl. He swayed with her every move on the air conditioner so he matched her movement and when she sure enough fell, he was right there to catch her. The Milwaukee area just got a big shot in the arm when it comes to men's grooming with the addition of Wisconsin's first The Art of Shaving store at Mayfair Mall. According to their information: The Art of Shaving Shops Created in 1996, are the first of their kind; a masculine establishment set up to provide men with the finest shaving products and accessories. Our shops are operated by a team of shaving specialists who offer advice to customers on proper grooming techniques.

Once again the Milwaukee Brewers prove to be a positive force in the community above affecting the lives of its citizens above and beyond the entertainment on field. Fifteen Wisconsin students will be attending college this fall with the help of the Brewers Community Foundation’s Selig Scholars Program ,  Player Scholarships donated by several Milwaukee Brewers players and the Michael J. Bonan Scholarship Fund. With the Class of 2012, a total of 99 students have now been selected as scholarships recipients since 2003. Seven students will receive Selig Scholarships, named in honor of former Brewers President and current Commissioner of Baseball Allan H. (Bud) Selig. Six students will receive Player Scholarships and two will receive Michael J. Bonan Scholarships. The Selig Scholars receive $10,000 over four years, while Player Scholarship recipients receive one-year scholarships in the amount of $2,500 through funds donated by Brewers players Ryan Braun, Marco Estrada, Yovan...

In the  Heview  series, we review products and services specifically for men including fashion and style products. When it comes to grooming products for men, a trip to a local big box store reveals the state of men's grooming compared to women's. Granted women have things like make up and nail polish that most men don't use (you should have seen me back in my '80's New Wave days), and we have our own sections for shaving and deodorant. But just comparing hair products we are far behind. Dedicated men's hair products at most stores may come down to brands like Dove for Men or similar 'men's' lines of existing women's or unisex brands. One of the few true men's only product lines broadly available is  American Crew . Sure places like  Sephora  carry some stuff for us - maybe 10 things that add up to less than 1% of total store inventory and sales (though their web site has a decent selection) and once again these are likely men's lines of...

ESPN was having a  Battle of the Ballparks , and in a bracket of field against field, Miller Park won its way into the Final Four. Then, as Wisconsinites usually do, we got on and voted it to the top. Due to the votes of Milwaukee fans, Miller Park ended up the final winner. Miller Park  had bested Angel, Dodger and Pittsburgh stadiums on its way to the Final Four where it was pitted against the vaunted Camden Yards and the finals where it met AT&T Park. Jim Caple of ESPN, creator of the poll, seems to think Miller Park does not deserve it and is there because of Wisconsin's penchant for patriotic voting. It always pains me to give kudos to teams and players that are rivals of our hometown teams, but when they deserve it they get it. Yahoo! Sports reported that Matthew Stafford, QB of the Detroit Lions, attended the  Griese-Hutchinson-Woodson Champions for Children's Hearts weekend  to benefit the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and while there pulled off a pretty admirable Well-Met feat. Stafford met Mott patient Faith Falzone and her brother Will, and learned they were big Lions fans. At the auction, there was a "Monday Night Football" package for the Lions game at Chicago where the Falzone's visited. Stafford donated six tickets to add to the package and then proceeded to bid $15,000 for the package. Even more amazing, after he won it, he turned around and gave the package to Will and his family.
